What is Geordiebook?

Geordiebook is a social network providing a digital space for the Geordie people of the North-East of England to meet and reflect their values and interests. Strengthening the sense of belonging among Geordies in the online space. A 'Geordie' is a nickname for a person from the Tyneside area of North-East England and the dialect used by its inhabitants.

 

How do I get started?

You can sign up for a free account on our Sign up page.

 

What can I use Geordiebook for?

Geordiebook is for individuals from Newcastle and the surrounding areas to connect, share experiences, and celebrate their unique culture. Features include the ability to edit and maintain a profile, post about how you're feeling, share photos and videos as well as participate in forums, groups and more.

 

Is Geordiebook a dating service?

We do not encourage nor provide any such a service. Users may converse online and decide to meet in person, to which we have no control and responsibility.

 

How many accounts am I allowed to have?

We only allow one account per person. We only accept individuals to join, not companies. If you've lost access to your account, we encourage you to contact us, rather than make a new account.

 

Could I use a demo account prior to signing up?

Yes. We do have a demo account providing limited functionality. This provides an insight into how our community and platform functions. If you wish to use our demo account, please contact us.

 

Does Geordiebook make a profit?

Geordiebook is a non-profit social networking platform and organisation. Geordiebook does not receive or make a profit. All inherited costs for running this platform are paid for by our owner.

 

What is Two-Factor Authentication?

By default, when a user logs into their account, they will be prompted to enter a one-time code, which will be sent to the email address they're currently registered with. All this means is that someone cannot access your account without the code. This can be turned on or off in Security Settings.

 

Will you ever sell my data?

No. Absolutely not. We are a non-profit organisation. We do not sell your information to any third-party companies. We believe your data belongs to you. That will never change.

 

Is my data and privacy protected?

While we cannot guarantee complete protection from data leaks and privacy violations over the Internet, we have put in place standard protective protocols to ensure that your data is encrypted per online session. We cannot access something such as your passwords, for example. When a user logs onto their account, they can only bypass a page by providing a one-time code, sent to the registered email address. As for your privacy, we protect that to the fullest extent. Some of the information asked of you to create your profile is optional.

 

Why do you require my location when I log in?

As soon as you log into your account, you will be prompted with a location popup request. You can then simply allow or deny. This is just so we know where you're logging in from. We don't keep a record of your location, only in your recorded sessions in Settings.

 

What happens if I allow 'Stay Logged In'?

When you log into your account, you will be given this option. All this means is that if you don't log out and clear your cookies, you will remain logged into your account on the same browser. If you are using a publicly accessed device, we don't recommend you using it.

 

What happens if I use 'or login with'?

On our homepage there is a one-click solution. Simply select the Facebook or Google icon. It will then collect the most relevant information about you to simplify the sign up process.

 

If someone posts something inappropriate, what should I do?

If you refer to our Terms of service, any foul, unacceptable and bigoted statements will not be tolerated. We censor certain bad words to maintain the harmony. Any photos containing graphic or sexual references will automatically be blurred. If any point, you are fed up of a user, you can report and block them.

 

I can't activate my account. How do I do that?

Subsequent to signing up, we will send you a confirmation email. If you have not yet received it, it may take a while. If you are still unable to find it, check your spam/junk folder. If you are still experiencing problems, let us know.

 

I have forgotten my password. What do I do?

Please use our forgotten password page to reset your password and regain access to your account.

 

How do I report or block a user?

If at any point you are being harassed, you can report and block a user by selecting the ellipsis button located on their profile. There you will see a report box. This is to provide any important information.

 

How do I update my profile and cover photos?

To update your profile and cover photos, you must locate the assocating icons next to them. They will allow you to upload, replace, delete and crop.

 

Someone has stolen my photos! What can I do?

If someone has stolen your photo, let us know and then we will delete the photo and/or the account of the bad member. However, we will need definitive proof of this before we can take any action.

 

Why has my account been deleted?

We ban/remove accounts that violate our Terms of service. We are not at liberty to provide a reason to you as to why your account may have been banned or deleted.

 

How do I delete my account?

Deleting your account is incredibly simple. Go to your Settings, select the Delete Account tab, enter your account password and select the Delete My Account button. It will log you out and redirect you to our homepage. Please note, deleting your account is permanent, so you may wish to download a copy of Your Information first before proceeding.

 

I have received a suspicious email. What do I do?

Unfortunately, phishing has become an all too common occurrence on the Internet nowadays. If you receive an email from us, please check the sender's email address. If it doesn't match our domain name, it's fraudulent. Do not click on anything. If you do, it will take you to a convincing mirror-image of our website. If you use your login credentials, it will be used to hack into your actual account, resulting in possible illicit activities.

 

I'm being randomly logged off. Why?

This could be for a few reasons; You could have cleared your browser cache and cookies or you could have privacy software or disk cleanup software currently running etc. Dare I say it, it could be a bug in our system. Let us know about it and we can help you.

 

Something isn't working properly.

We rely on user feedback. If you notice that something isn't working or functional as advertised, then please do let us know.
